Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 1, 2026
This Privacy Policy sets out how SkyPhone GPS (the "App") handles personal information.
1. Information We Collect
The App may collect the following information.
- Location information (precise and approximate): We collect your current location in order to share your location with friends, display maps, and let you post to "where you are now." We normally obtain it while you are using the App. Only if you turn on "Share even when the app is closed" in the privacy settings do we also obtain your current location while the App is closed (in the background) (see the next item for details).
- Location information while the App is closed:
- This feature is off by default. It operates only if you turn on "Share even when the app is closed" in the privacy settings, agree on the explanation screen, and set your device's location permission to "Always Allow."
- Your current location is sent when you move. The approximate sending intervals are as follows (depending on the state of your device or decisions made by the OS, sending may be delayed or may not occur).
- iPhone "Battery saver" (default selection): when you move a significant distance (about 500 m) and when a place you have stopped at is detected
- iPhone "Standard": in addition to the above, when you move about 150 m
- Android "Battery saver" (default selection): checked every 5 minutes, sent when you have moved 200 m or more (location is determined using mobile network signals and Wi-Fi)
- Android "Standard": checked every minute, sent when you have moved 50 m or more (GPS is used)
- On Android, a notification stating "Sharing your location" remains displayed while this feature is operating.
- No location is sent while the visibility of your location information is set to "Private." On the server side as well, any location received while it is set to "Private" is discarded without being stored. Sending resumes when you change the visibility back to "Friends only" or "Shared with everyone."
- How to stop: The feature stops if you do any of the following: turn off "Share even when the app is closed" in the privacy settings, set the visibility to "Private," log out, delete your account, or change the App's location permission in your device settings to anything other than "Always Allow."
- Locations obtained while the device cannot connect are temporarily stored on the device, up to 300 entries and for up to 24 hours, and are deleted from the device once they have been sent.
- This sending uses a "location-sending key," issued for each device separately from your login credentials. The server stores only an irreversible form of the key (a hash value), not the key itself. This key is invalidated when you turn off the feature, log out, set the visibility to "Private," or request deletion of your account, and records of invalidated keys are deleted after 30 days.
- Location history: We store the current locations we collect in chronological order. Stored location history is automatically deleted once 30 days have passed from the time it was recorded. It is also deleted when your account is deleted. Location history is used to estimate where you made a post by comparing it with the time of the post, and to display that place on the map as a pin (a location history pin). These pins are displayed to you and to the people permitted by the visibility of your location information (see "3. Sharing of Information"). The posts covered include posts you have made public on Bluesky. Location history from before the last time you changed the visibility or the "Blur my location" setting is not used to display pins to other users (for example, locations from a period when the visibility was set to "Private" will not be displayed to other users even after you make it visible again).
- Account information: Your skyphone.social handle used for login (a Bluesky / AT Protocol compatible ID), display name, and profile image.
- User content: We store information you provide yourself, such as posts (text, photos, videos, and audio), the content of direct messages, and profile information.
- Device status: Battery level, whether the device is charging, and the time you last used the App. This is sent only while the App is open. It is used to display on your friends' screens (see "3. Sharing of Information"). Only the latest entry is stored, and it is overwritten with new values.
- Device information: Device tokens for delivering push notifications, statistical information on App usage (screen transitions and events), and records of abnormal App terminations (device model, OS version, and location in the code where the termination occurred).
2. Purposes of Use
- Providing the location sharing feature (sharing your current location with the people you select through the visibility setting, including sharing while the App is closed)
- Providing map display and the feature for posting to "where you are now"
- Estimating where posts were made and displaying them on the map (location history pins)
- Providing communication features such as connecting with friends and direct messages
- Delivering push notifications
- Improving the App and fixing bugs through analysis of usage
We do not use location information for advertising.
3. Sharing of Information
We do not sell users' personal information to third parties. We do not share personal information with third parties except in the following cases.
- Display of your current location and location-related information to other users according to the visibility of your location information. You can change the visibility at any time from the privacy settings or the button on the map screen.
- "Friends only" (default): Displayed only to people with whom you have mutually approved each other as friends.
- "Shared with everyone": Displayed to all users logged in to the App.
- "Private": Not displayed to anyone.
- Regardless of the visibility setting, it is not displayed to people you have blocked or who have blocked you.
- Location blurring: If you turn on "Blur my location" in the privacy settings, other users are shown the center of the grid square of approximately 1 km by 1 km in which you are located, instead of your exact current location. The way the grid is laid out differs for each user and does not change from day to day. The same location is displayed to all users who view it. Location history pins are shifted and displayed in the same way. You yourself are shown your exact location. The server stores your exact location, and the location is shifted when displayed to other users. Pins for posts made to "where you are now" are not subject to blurring (they are displayed at the place where the post was made).
- Per-friend visibility (Ghost Mode): For each friend, you can choose "Show exact location," "Show approximate area" (the center of a grid square of approximately 1 km by 1 km), "Freeze" (keep showing the location and time as of the moment you switched), or "Hide." The other person is not notified of your choice. When your overall visibility is set to "Private," your location is not displayed to any friend. This setting applies only between friends. When your overall visibility is set to "Shared with everyone," people who are not your friends (including people who have removed you as a friend) see your location according to your overall setting.
- Battery level and time of last use: Displayed to friends who can see your location. Not displayed to friends for whom you have chosen "Freeze" or "Hide," or to people who cannot see your location under your visibility setting.
- Time spent at a place and whether you are on the move: Friends who can see your exact location (friends for whom you have chosen "Show exact location," and friends for whom you have not chosen a per-friend visibility while location blurring is off) are shown how long you have been at the same place (for example, "Here for 2 h 15 min"), or that you are on the move and your approximate speed (for example, "On the move・30 km/h"). The server determines this from your current location and location history, and does not send the coordinates of the place where you are staying. This is not displayed to friends for whom you have chosen "Show approximate area," "Freeze," or "Hide," to friends while location blurring is on (except friends for whom you have chosen "Show exact location"), or to people who cannot see your location under your visibility setting. Locations from before the time you last changed your visibility, blurring, or per-friend visibility, or before you became friends, are not counted toward the time spent at a place.
- Reposting of posts to Bluesky: When a user whose location visibility is set to "Shared with everyone" makes a post in the App, the text of the post (up to 300 characters), the name of the place, and images are reposted as a public post to the user's own Bluesky (a decentralized social network) account. Reposted posts can be viewed by anyone through Bluesky and other services that support the AT Protocol. Reposts do not include latitude or longitude values. Posts made while the visibility is set to "Friends only" or "Private" are not reposted, even if you later change it to "Shared with everyone." When you delete a post in the App, delete your account, or change the visibility from "Shared with everyone" to "Friends only" or "Private," the reposted posts are also deleted. When you edit a post, the repost of the previous content is deleted (the new content is not reposted). However, content that has already been copied to other services may not be able to be deleted.
- When disclosure is required by law
4. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services. Please see each company's website for its privacy policy.
- AT Protocol / Bluesky (authentication and identity through the skyphone.social personal data server, reposting of posts by users whose visibility is set to "Shared with everyone," and loading of posts that users have made public on Bluesky)
- Supabase (database and authentication)
- Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications)
- Firebase Analytics / Google Analytics (usage statistics and analysis)
- Firebase Crashlytics (records of abnormal App terminations)
- Mapbox (map display)
- OpenPOI API (searching for nearby places; when you search, we send your location rounded to about 100 m and your search terms; no account information is sent)
5. Data Storage and Deletion
User data is stored on servers protected by appropriate security measures.
- Current location: Only the latest entry is stored, and it is overwritten with new locations.
- Device status (battery and time of last use): Only the latest entry is stored, and it is overwritten with new values. It is deleted when you delete your account.
- Per-friend visibility settings: These cease to apply when you delete your account or when you are no longer friends, and are deleted when you delete your account or unfriend (both your settings and the other person's settings for you).
- Location history: Automatically deleted once 30 days have passed from the time it was recorded.
- Records of invalidated location-sending keys: Deleted 30 days after invalidation.
If you delete your account, the following data will be deleted promptly.
- Current location and location history
- Location-sending keys (invalidated at the time you request deletion of your account, and deleted thereafter)
- Push notification destinations (device tokens)
- Posts and images, and posts reposted to Bluesky
- Friend relationships
- Codes for email address verification and password reset
- The location-sending key and temporarily stored locations on the device used to delete the account (keys on other devices are also invalidated on the server side and are removed from those devices the next time they attempt to send)
The following information remains after you delete your account.
- Your skyphone.social login account (because it is shared with other SkyPhone apps; it is not deleted when you delete your account in the App)
- Block relationships (to protect both the person who blocked and the person who was blocked)
- Direct messages (because they are shared with other SkyPhone apps, they are not deleted when you delete your account in the App, and your conversations with others remain as they are)
- Records of the account deletion procedure (internal identification number, date and time, and processing status). These are automatically deleted one year after the procedure is completed (or, if it could not be completed, one year after the last attempt).
6. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated as necessary. If any changes are made, we will notify you on this page.
